The Museable Roadmap: What’s Coming, and Why It Matters

hands hovering over a road map

At Museable, we believe small and midsize museums deserve the same digital power and polish as the world’s biggest institutions—without needing an IT department to make it happen.

We’re building toward that future. Not in the abstract. Not in five years. But right now, step by step, with care, intention, and input from the museums we want to build the community with.

Here’s what we’re working on—and where we’re headed.

Phase One: Core Features, Reimagined

Our first development sprint is focused on building a strong, lightweight foundation—tools that are simple to use, easy to adopt, and powerful enough to grow with you. Using WordPress as a base, our tool set is currently in development and will include:

  • A Better Way to Organize and Share Your Collections
Simple tools to bring your collection online—on your own terms, on your own site.
  • A Public-Facing Collection Viewer
Designed for clarity and ease, so you can share your collection online with minimal setup.
  • Drag-and-Drop Exhibit Builder
Launch digital exhibitions with ready-to-use templates—designed to adapt to your curatorial voice.

These are the essentials. But they’re just the beginning.

Phase Two: Community as Infrastructure

Museable is more than a tool. It’s a network in the making.

In this next phase, we’re building for connection—between institutions, between users, between stories. Community isn’t an afterthought. It’s part of the infrastructure.

Here’s what that looks like:

  • Collaboration Tools
Museums will be able to curate exhibitions, contribute to collections, or spotlight work—without needing to reinvent the wheel every time.
  • Storytelling & Interpretation Layers
Not just object pages. We’re building space for narrative, memory, multimedia, and layered perspectives.
  • Built-in Peer Support
A backchannel for museums to troubleshoot, ask questions, and share what works—with each other. No gatekeeping, no locked silos.
  • Tech That Doesn’t Trap You
We’re designing Museable to integrate easily with your existing systems—and to let you walk away if you ever need to. No dark patterns. No lock-in.

This phase is about building infrastructure for autonomy—and making the digital space feel more like the museum world at its best: generous, curious, and open.

We’re Now Inviting Our First Cohort

We’re currently building out our first group of museum partners—a small cohort of institutions who will be the first to use Museable and help us shape it through feedback, collaboration, and conversation.

You don’t need a digital team. You just need curiosity, openness, and a desire to make your collections and community work more accessible, together.

If that sounds like you, we’d love to talk.

Museable isn’t a black box or a walled garden. It’s a platform built on trust, collaboration, and the idea that museums do their best work when they’re in conversation—with each other, and with their communities.

We’re still building. But the future is already taking shape.
